The Abyss

(source)

I had run as far as I could run

I had seen as far as I could see

The quivering in my soul

Has never felt so steep

Each night I close my eyes

You haunt me in my sleep

The echos of disapproving voices

Wake me in the night

I try to chide them away

Run further to the edge

The abyss is welcoming me

If I could just light the torch instead

The calming of the waters

And the rustling of the leaves

The sound of loneliness brings me to my knees

With every searing pain

And every numbing caress

I close my eyes again

Just to feel your touch
